The Working On Cities Design Studio is part of the master programme for students from both disciplines, Architecture and Urban Planning. During one year, students will participate in a one-semester preparatory lab, a study trip to Ghana, and the actual design studio in the second semester.

W O C - Design Studio is part of the institutes one-year master programme of the Urban Management and Development programme. The students will chose the specific topic of their master thesis within the framework of this year’s focus on informal settlements in Ghana.

pasel.küne earchitects will contribute to W O C – Design Studio with their professional experience o building in informal settlements. The office has recently been awarded with the International Bauhaus Award 2008 for their integrated transformation of a slum in Chile.

The objects of the Institute are the advancement of the art and science of architecture in Ghana and the promotion of research, education and the practice connected therewith.

It is the collaborative objective of all partners, AvBR, IHS and KNUST (to be confirmed) to elaborate a corporate contribution for the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2009. The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam is a bi-annual event that links the contemporary (Dutch) agenda to the international discourse on architecture and urban design. Topic of the Biennale 2009 will be Open City: Designing Coexistence.

W O C - Design Studio is aiming to organize a collaborative workshop with the KNUST in order to gain insight into the actual situation in Ghana, as well as producing an intercultural exchange. It is the explicit aim to get KNUST involved into the final contribution for the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2009.
